Elite Dangerous Social Network – Event Recap for January 13, 2025 HIP 22460 Blockade: A United Front Against the Thargoids
January 13, 2025

Yesterday, January 12, 2025, was a day to remember in the Elite Dangerous galaxy as nearly 1,500 Commanders gathered in the infamous HIP 22460 system for a massive anti-Thargoid blockade. Organized by the Anti-Xeno Initiative (AXI) and other combat-focused squadrons, the event was a bold and ambitious effort to sustain pressure on the lingering Thargoid forces in the area.
The objective? To secure the airspace around the Proteus Wave site, where Salvation’s failed superweapon triggered devastating consequences during the Second Thargoid War in August 3308. The battle wasn’t just about exterminating Thargoids—it was about reclaiming a symbolic site that marked one of humanity’s darkest hours.
Event Highlights
Despite the complexity of managing such a large-scale operation, the event was a success in many ways:
Massive Turnout:
The organizers anticipated large numbers, but seeing 1,500 Commanders in action was unprecedented. It demonstrated the strong will of the player community to unite for a common cause.GalNet Recognition:
Frontier Development took notice, issuing a GalNet article and creating a custom Anti-Xeno combat zone above the Proteus Wave site. This added an official layer to the event, turning it into a key moment in Elite Dangerous history.Tactical Coordination:
A dedicated group of instance hosts ensured that the influx of Commanders from across the bubble could participate. Special recognition goes to Commander Mechan and other instance hosts like Commander JX, Commander Mikal17, and Commander Tom Cat for their hard work under challenging conditions.
Lessons Learned
According to a debrief by Commander Mechan, while the event was a success overall, there were a few areas for improvement:
Instance Stability:
Although the infrastructure was prepared for high player volumes, large instances of over 200 Commanders proved problematic. Lag issues arose when players with lower-end hardware or poor network configurations joined, causing Thargoid interceptors to warp unpredictably.Briefing Participation:
Only about 50% of participants read the event briefing beforehand, leading to confusion during key moments. Future events will emphasize clearer communication and potentially limit instance sizes to improve coordination.Griefing Incidents:
Unfortunately, a few griefers attempted to disrupt the event. Thanks to quick action by the AXI moderation team, they were promptly removed from the private group. However, this highlighted the need for tighter control during open community events.
Outcome and Rewards
Despite these challenges, most Commanders walked away with hundreds of millions to billions of credits, battle scars, and great memories. Many participants described the event as “one of the most memorable moments” in Elite Dangerous, and organizers expressed hope that it might inspire similar large-scale efforts in the future.
Looking Ahead
This event wasn’t just a demonstration of player unity—it was a message. The blockade at HIP 22460 represents humanity’s determination to stand firm in the face of overwhelming odds. With Thargoids still pressing deeper into human space, events like these could become critical in turning the tide of the ongoing conflict.
The Anti-Xeno Initiative is already planning future operations, and lessons learned from this event will shape their strategies going forward.
